«One man is bound and determined to make a difference in Mississippi law enforcement»
DREW, Mississippi - Today has been a day visiting colleagues in law enforcement around the county of Sunflower and beyond. Chief Anthony Gibson has been driving his own car visiting as many chiefs and leaders around his county including all other surrounding counties telling his fellow leaders that the BobCOP System is going to help their departments and cities and some day help change the outlook of the State of Mississippi.
Determined to see a change in his community and beyond, Chief Gibson is going to see that everyone at least hears about it. Some chiefs don't even have the resources to receive a fax or even an email. "They're sometimes afraid of being in front of a computer and that's what needs to change, too". The fear of computers is not something that bothers Chief Gibson. He believes that if he doesn't start now, ‘no one will and what kind of precedence is this'?
Learning from the past has allowed Chief Gibson to move forward to see positive changes in his community and elsewhere. "We all share what we do and from the one-man agency to the agency with hundreds of officers we all need to start looking at ways to improve our work, our agencies and overall our cities," says Chief Gibson.
According to Chief Gibson, "Generally, failure hurts. Our natural reaction to failure is something like ‘I did something wrong,' ‘I'm embarrassed,' or ‘I'm a loser,' etc. We don't like pain and we don't like failure. So we avoid it at all costs."
When was the last time you learned something from success? On the other hand, when was the last time you learned something from failure? Failure is a great teacher. We simply need to learn how to handle failures to move forward. Chief Gibson says, "Benjamin Franklin wrote, ‘the things which hurt, instruct'".
Chief Gibson's perception is very clear. "Perception of a response to failure needs to change. Failure is not a bad thing. It's simply an opportunity. The difference between average people and achieving people is their perception of a response to failure. Failure is not failure; it is an opportunity to get better. Don't personalize it."
"If we're going to continue doing the same thing we're doing, we're not going to move forward. We're not going to help those who come after us, if there is even a person to take over. We set them up to fail. This isn't right and it's not productive of our time. We in effect are letting down our community and our citizens". "I see failure as an opportunity to get better and this includes using new technology such as BobCOP."
Transitions are a way to start over again. It gives us a valuable tool, whether good or bad, unanticipated or anticipated, to provide us with an opportunity to take things under control and learn to grow in the 21st Century. "When I heard this, I stood up and just decided to take action. Now, we have a website of our own, including a state-of-the-art police resource tool that is beyond anything else out there".
Managing Partner of Tekbrokers VENTURES, LLC and BobCOP Samuel Anderson agrees that being proactive and positive is a good thing. "We decided to start this system by going out there and finding out what the public needed and what the agencies are going through. Our research showed us that we have a valuable opportunity to make a change and see it happen almost in real-time".
As for Chief Gibson, what does Samuel say about him? "I see a man who has a heart! I see a man with strong determination and the willingness to take hold of the rope and start pulling in what he can and get others to participate in his quest to see his great State of Mississippi become what it can become, part of the 21st Century and beyond. He is a good leader".
"Whatever you're trying to accomplish, use failure as a way to grow, improve, and learn. I'm tired of failure, but it also keeps me going. I want to see our State of Mississippi be the very first State that uses and takes advantage of this new system that not only allows for our people to report and submit complaints, but to communicate with the police. It also is going to have a communications system on it that will allow us all to be in contact with each other and improve our methods and ways of policing that no other system offers," says Chief Gibson.
Taking advantage of the TEG Grant Fund is how this is happening. Agencies that are signing up with BobCOP are seeing the changes almost immediately and in a positive light. Most don't even have a website and the cost alone of this system being available to populations of 10,000 and below except for the sign-up fee of $25.00 gives them an opportunity to be seen and have a highly advanced police tool.
We think Mississippi is on to something here. Will they be the very first State to see an entire community in every county able to participate and use the BobCOP System? Who knows? But you can be sure Chief Anthony Gibson will not stop until they do.
What does Samuel Anderson have to say about this? "I can only give him my full support and to all those coming on board, they will have our full support and a wonderful cutting-edge advanced system. To all those who are still deciding...ask us what this can do for you and we'll show you exactly what it can do, you will be amazed, but I am excited to see someone with the passion as Chief Gibson has".
